The World Video Game Hall of Fame on Thursday inducted four honorees, paying tribute to games that challenged players and changed the industry.

Making up the Class of 2025 are: Defender, the 1981 arcade game that raised the bar on difficulty; Tamagotchi, the digital pets that bridged toys and video games; GoldenEye 007, whose four-person mode influenced multiplayer games that followed; and Quake, which debuted in 1996 with a 3D engine that became the new standard for the industry. The winners emerged from a field of 12 finalists that included Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Frogger, Golden Tee, Harvest Moon, Mattel Football, and NBA 2K.

The Hall of Fame each year recognizes arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile games that have had staying power and influenced the video game industry or pop culture.

Lego plans  to release a special edition set that pays homage to the iconic Pac-Man arcade game and celebrates its cultural impact.

With 2,561 pieces, the set looks to replicate the popular 1980s arcade game and comes complete with bricks that illuminate the coin slot. Lego Pac Man

Sadly, the Lego set does not actually function as a playable game – but the fun, for both Lego and Pac-Man fans, lies in creating the iconic device, which is packed full of nostalgic details.

The company says the piece is ‘loaded with retro game details you’ll want to devour.’

One of the key features is a ‘mechanical maze’ that can be operated by turning a lever on the side of the completed model.

As it is turned, the characters inside the maze move around thanks to nifty Lego engineering.

The miniature Lego arcade game measures 13 x 10 x 7 inches and even has a removable back panel that allows owners to look inside to see the inner workings of the machine.

Nearly two decades ago, Dmitriy Cherepanov started a collection of retro computers in Mariupol, Ukraine, that grew into an internationally known assemblage of historic machines, housed in a private museum he called IT 8-bit.

Russia’s campaign to take over his city in southeast Ukraine has killed at least 2,000 civilians, destroyed most of the city’s homes and turned Cherepanov’s beloved computer museum into rubble.

“I’m very upset,” Cherepanov, 45, told NPR. “It’s been a hobby of my life.”
