This is kind of sad. I grew up listening to these guys. Hard to believe they don’t get along well, to the degree one takes out a restraining order against the other one.
When I was a teen in the 1980s listening to all these singers and bands, I never realized how unhappy some of them are with each other, or with themselves, or that some of them could be so horrible to their fans and other people (not speaking specifically of Hall and Oates there specifically on the last point – maybe they were always really nice to their fans, I don’t know – but of other 1980s recording acts I’ve read about over the years).
I never realized until years after he died how depressed and miserable singer George Michael was in his personal life – back in the 1980s, when I flipped through entertainment magazines, I’d see George Michael (and these other singers and bands) smiling in their publicity photos.
They all looked so happy and well-adjusted in the magazines, on the awards shows, and in their music videos. I never would have guessed that many of them struggled with depression, eating disorders, or whatever problems, or that they’d go on to have major disputes with their bandmates, or you find out years later, they were guilty of being rude to, or sexually abusing fans in the past.

Hall filed the suit against his former bandmate in Nashville Chancery Court on Thursday and a temporary restraining order was granted the follow day.
…The pair, one of the most successful duos in rock history, released a stream of hits from the mid-1970s through the ’80s, including “Rich Girl,” “You Make My Dreams (Come True),” and “Maneater”.
Hall filed the suit, which deals with “contract/debt,” in Nashville Chancery Court, according to online court records. The details of the dispute are unclear as the case is sealed.

…Daryl Hall is enmeshed in a legal battle with his longtime musical partner, John Oates, going so far as to request a restraining order.
Little information about the legal squabble is publicly available – as the court documents are sealed – but The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday that Hall filed a lawsuit against Oates.
In another report, TMZ claims the pair were “in arbitration over some dispute,” possibly “over division of royalties, or it could be over Oates singing their songs in solo acts.”
The outlet also reported that Hall requested a restraining order against Oates, which the judge granted. 
Hall, 77, and Oates, 75, formed their duo, Hall & Oates, in 1970 and released a string of hits like “Rich Girl,” “She’s Gone,” “Maneater” and “Out of Touch.”
… Despite also having solo recording careers, the two never officially split up and have continued to tour together over the years.
Hall, however, has hinted about alleged issues with Oates in the past.
