The Senate vote was 55-5 to rename the highway that runs past Prince’s Paisley Park museum and studios. Among those watching was his oldest sister, Sharon Nelson. The bill passed the House unanimously last month on the seventh anniversary of Prince’s death, and now goes to Gov. Tim Walz, who is expected to sign.

Purple signs will soon go up along a seven-mile stretch of State Highway 5 in the Minneapolis suburbs of Chanhassen and Eden Prairie – designating it the Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway. Prince’s friends and fans are footing the bill, said the lead sponsor, Republican Sen. Julia Coleman, of Waconia.

But Bono was dead set on changing the world of downloadable music forever. He recalled thinking, We should give it away to everybody. It’s their choice whether they want to listen to it.

U2’s album Songs of Innocence was forcibly made available to every one of the 500 million–plus users of iTunes for free.

The Batmobile Was Patented 56 Years Ago Today and Still Ended Up in Court

If you’re Gen X – like me – you no doubt saw the 1960s “Batman” TV show starring Adam West as Batman in reruns in the 1970s, maybe even the 1980s or 1990s.

I loved that show when I was a kid, and I had some Batman toys back then that were based on that show.

The 1960s era Batman television show’s Batmobile definitely stood out.

Holy Bat Patent, Batman!

Famous movie car designer George Barris was granted a patent for the design of the Batmobile 56 years ago today on October 18, 1966.

The iconic car was used throughout the Batman TV show’s original three-season run and made an appearance years later in a 1989 film.

Barris designed the first one around a Lincoln Futura show car and built three more with fiberglass bodies for the production. batmobile

The original was sold at auction in 2013 for $4.62 million, the same year it was the subject of a rights battle in court.

Not over the patent, which expired after 14 years, but its copyright and trademark protections.

Ralph Macchio reveals the reason he lost a role in Back to the Future. The actor made a name for himself at a young age with his starring role in 1983’s The Outsiders, based on the S.E. Hinton novel of the same name. macchio_fox

His next role as Daniel LaRusso in 1984 film The Karate Kid launched him into international stardom and spawned a franchise.

After three films, Macchio returned to the role of Daniel decades later in the widely successful Netflix hit series Cobra Kai, which brought back many other legacy characters.

… In a conversation with Yahoo, Macchio revealed that he auditioned for the role of Marty in Back to the Future.

The actor also disclosed the reason that he didn’t end up getting the part, which unfortunately hinged on his accent not being ‘all-American’ enough.

“Barbie is proud to honor the unmatched career of the “Queen of Rock ‘n Roll” with a @TinaTurner Barbie doll,” the brand shared on Instagram, adding that “collectors and music fans alike can celebrate the music icon with the new Signature #Barbie doll.”

Consider this crossover music to our ears.

On its website, the brand added, “She went from singing as a young girl in her rural church choir in Nutbush, Tennessee, to becoming the legendary performer hailed as the undisputed ‘Queen of Rock ‘n Roll.’

Barbie celebrates the unprecedented music career and journey of Tina Turner. She is a Grammy-winning, chart-topping singer, and one of the best-selling recording artists of all time.”

The doll not only celebrates Turner’s career, but also her smash hit “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” from her fifth studio album, Private Dancer.

The track, which also served as the title of Turner’s 1993 biopic starring Angela Bassett, became the singer’s first and only No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after it was released back in 1984. Turner went on to take home three awards for it — including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance — at the 1985 Grammys.

John Hinckley Jr., Who Shot Ronald Reagan, Set To Be Unconditionally Released on June 15, 2022

I was in elementary school when Hinckley shot Reagan, and it was announced over my school’s PA system after it happened – I was sitting in class when this announcement was made.

It weirds me out that Hinckley has a Twitter account now, according to the online news reports I’ve seen.

Attempted Reagan assassin John Hinckley thanks supporters ahead of full release: ‘Time to rock and roll’

By Andrea Vacchiano, Fox News
June 3, 2022

John Hinckley Jr., the man who shot President Ronald Reagan in 1981, is celebrating his upcoming release from court restrictions.

After a federal judge on Wednesday confirmed Hinckley’s unconditional release on June 15, the would-be assassin took to Twitter to thank his supporters.

“A big thank you to everyone who helped me get my unconditional release,” Hinckley wrote.

“What a long strange trip it has been. Now it’s time to rock and roll,” he concluded.

He likely was referencing his upcoming Brooklyn concert appearances. Hinckley, an aspiring singer-songwriter, has been uploading his music to YouTube, where he has over 27,000 subscribers.

Market Hotel, the venue hosting Hinckley in July, has faced backlash for inflammatory comments about the assassination attempt.

…Hinckley was 25 when, inspired by the Martin Scorsese film “Taxi Driver,” he shot the newly elected Reagan in an attempt to impress actress Jodie Foster.

He was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1982.

Hinckley was committed to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for over 34 years. He was released under certain restrictions in 2016, living with his mother in Williamsburg, Virginia, since then.
