Originals, the latest posthumous release from The Prince Estate, compiles 15 previously unheard songs Prince wrote and demoed for other artists. Among the familiar titles penned by Prince are Sheila E.’s “The Glamorous Life,” Kenny Rogers’ “You’re My Love,” and the Bangles “Manic Monday.”

For the Bangles, “Manic Monday” was a career breakthrough and, according to Bangle Susanna Hoffs, the culmination of a magical series of events.

Kevin Costner drops bombshell about iconic The Bodyguard poster: ‘That wasn’t even Whitney’

By Maureen Lee Lenker
June 21, 2019

As romantic posters go, it’s hard to get more steamy and engaging than the one for The Bodyguard.

The poster for the 1992 film starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston features Costner’s titular bodyguard carrying Houston’s pop star Rachel Marron out of a nightclub after a riot breaks out at one of her shows. There’s only one catch — that’s not really Houston in the shot.

Madonna and Bruce Springsteen Both Have New Albums Out Today. It’s Like the ’80s Never Went Away by M. Lou

Excerpts:

June 14, 2019

It’s the battle of the ’80s musical icons.

Madonna, aka The Queen of Pop, and an equally formidable musician Bruce Springsteen, nicknamed “The Boss,” are both out with new albums.

It may seem like a hip, young new artist is popping up every day — but these titans of the ’80s are showing that they’ve still got it.

Madonna’s “Madame X”

…Madonna’s 14th studio album, “Madame X,” is her latest full-length album since 2015’s “Rebel Heart.” It includes 15 songs and was inspired by her time spent in Lisbon, Portugal.

Madonna’s ‘Madame X’ Album Music Suggestion

Madonna’s ‘Madame X’ Album Music Suggestion

Out of all the songs on Madonna’s new album (released June 14, 2019), “Madame X,” the only ones I can recommend for any Gen Xer who’d like to have a new work out song would be “I Don’t Search I Find” and the official remixes of “Medellin” (pronounced “med-uh-zeen”).

“I Don’t Search I Find” is very reminiscent of Madonna’s 1990s song “Rescue Me.”

madonna_MadameX You can listen to the entire “Madame X” album (Deluxe Version) on Madonna’s official You Tube account here, and probably on Spotify.

Many professional music reviewers have given this album a high rating, in spite of the fact they’re also saying some of the songs on it are terrible (see this example or this example), while one or two reviews have been very negative across the board (such as this one or this one).

My personal take on this album:
Aside from “I Don’t Search I Find” and the official “Medellin” remixes, the other songs on this album range from mid-tempo, to strange, to so-so average and dull, to, I am sorry to say, un-listen-able.

The announcement comes on the heels of a separate deal between the singer’s estate and Primary Wave Publishing last week, which is also expected to produce a series of new projects, including a new album, a possible Broadway musical and Vegas-style spectacle.

After years of safeguarding the legacy of Whitney Houston, the late singer’s estate – led by her sister-in-law Pat Houston – announced big plans for the singer on Monday, thanks to a publishing deal that could spawn an album of unreleased music, a Broadway musical and, for the second time, a hologram dedicated to the legendary singer.

Dionne Warwick Says There’s No More Classic Or Iconic Artists: ‘Not Yet’ (2019)

Dionne Warwick Says There’s No More Classic Or Iconic Artists: ‘Not Yet’ (2019)

I absolutely agree with her.

Most of the singers and bands today – those under the age of 40 – are putting out absolute dreck. I am willing to come right out and say it like it is, but Warwick, God bless her, is trying to dance around the subject and be more polite about it.

I seriously doubt 50 years from now, many people will feel nostalgic for, or even remember, most of the bands and singers who are releasing music today, or remember most of the songs from the early 00s to the present, because most of the music from around the early 2000s to the present has been total and utter garbage.

“THAT’S NOT, AS YOU GUYS WOULD SAY, ‘THROWING SHADE,'” WARWICK TELLS ESSENCE.

by Danielle Young

She’s baaaack! Dionne Warwick, the songstress who has given us 58 years of chart-topping classics such as “What The World Needs Now” and “Say A Little Prayer,” ain’t done yet. The singer has returned with a new album, aptly titled, She’s Back [read more about Warwick here].

….Musical OG, Dionne Warwick stopped by ESSENCE to talk about her new album, “She’s Back,” but spilled the tea on how today’s music will yield no classics.

Billie Eilish Music Suggestion

Billie Eilish Music Suggestion

If you’re Gen X and have paid any attention to music the last few years, you should be aware that the majority of music made today by anyone under the age of 40 is terrible.

However, every so often, there are some exceptions. This is one of those times.

Billie Eilish, last I heard, was only seventeen years old. She released an album, in March of this year, entitled “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”
